Can't see Pics eventually, everything, glasses, neither, where

Hi Folks daughter has acquired an old pc with win 98 on, doesn't seem to be any graphics program so when she put CD in to check her photos she had to click on the CD drive and they all have a funny icon with like a tick in the middle!! neither of us have suitable glasses anyway the only option she has is 'open' in the right click menu and everything happens extremely slowly tho eventually a picture comes up but she wants them like mine where a click will open it up instantly but I have the option to 'open with' how can I get hers the same as mine please?

Hold the shift key down and right click on one of the pictures; you should get the quot;open withquot; option on the menu - choose the program you want to use and put a tick in the quot;always use this program boxquot;  That should do it, I think.                    
      

Maybe the Pc doesn't have a picture viewing application... Frances, drop me a PM if you'd like one to install.

Well Paint will do it at a push, or indeed so will IE, but what I have in mind is a far superior solution.

Hi Floydoid, thanks for the offer, right now daughter knows very little about PC's so I don't want to give her anything she might find difficult, actually since deleting a lot of stuff and cleaning it it is running much quicker. I did suggest defragging but it is not doing it properly, ie gets to so much % then says 'drive change' and starts from scratch again,I thought of safe mode but trying by pressing F1 or F8 doesn't work, don't quite know where to go from here. My gut feeling is if it is an old 98 installation, then it could do with a complete reinstall.  When I used 98, I reinstalled on average twice a year... but by the sound of it I think that is going to be a bit much for your daughter.

The pic viewer I have available is very simple to install and use tho.
